EDWARDS — On Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Vail Valley Cares Thrifty Shop in Edwards hosts a one-day dress sale. The event, called the Dress Swap & Sale, gives local high school students preparing for homecoming dance season the opportunity to swap a dress from their closets for a “new” one, or to choose from a large selection of brand new and gently used dresses for purchase.
Organized by the staff of Vail Valley Cares Thrifty Shops, dresses are collected throughout the season in anticipation of Dress Swap & Sale events. Oftentimes, the Thrifty Shops receive donations of never-worn garments from retail and consignment shops, in addition to once-worn pieces that still look brand new. All dresses are priced at $20 for this one-day sale, and proceeds benefit the Vail Valley Cares Thrifty Shops grant program. Dresses also can be “swapped,” where a dress will be donated in exchange for a “new” dress from the Edwards Thrifty Shop on the day of the sale.
The Dress Swap & Sale was created to help locals save time and money on dress purchases and traveling to shop, while also encouraging charitable ecology through the reuse of existing garments versus buying new.
“We started hosting this event one year ago and continue to bring it back as the need arises,” said Jennie Beaudine, Vail Valley Cares executive assistant. “This is our fourth Dress Swap & Sale and we have a 90 percent success rate, meaning nearly all of our shoppers searching for the perfect dress have found it at one of our sales.”
This is a valley-wide event and the inventory will be extensive, including a variety of sizes and styles of dresses. The Edwards Thrifty Shop currently has about 80 dresses in stock, ready for the sale.

The Dress Swap & Sale takes place at the Edwards Thrifty Shop across from The Riverwalk of Edwards. The store is usually closed on Sundays so dress shoppers will be the only customers during this special sale.
