Grand Junction man accused of trying to run over cop
Vail, CO Colorado
GRAND JUNCTION, Colorado ” A 22-year-old Grand Junction man has been jailed on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly tried to run down an off-duty law enforcement officer.
Authorities say the incident happened about 2 a.m. Sunday while the officer was jogging in Fruitvale.
The suspect is accused of skidding to a stop in his car, then getting out and threatening the officer. Mesa County sheriff’s officials say the man then got back in the vehicle and tried to run over the officer twice.
The sheriff’s office won’t name the officer, or say which agency he works for.
An arrest affidavit says Corey M.-Marcella “accelerated directly” at the officer with the “intent to hit and possibly kill him with the vehicle.”
