Habitat names new board members, staff

Daily Staff Report

AVON Mack Nichols has been elected to a two-year term as president of the board of directors of the local branch of Habitat for Humanity. The nonprofit organization helps underprivileged people build and buy their own homes. Nichols, who has lived in the Vail Valley for six years, was previously president of Mallinckrodt Inc., a global health care manufacturer and marketer in St. Louis. He also was on the boards at the St. Louis Art Museum, Maryville University, the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the St. Louis Metropolitan YMCA. Barbara Duncan, a 13-year resident of the valley, was elected to a two-year term as the boards vice president. Duncan is involved in numerous real estate development projects in the valley through her position at Community Concepts and Hermes Custom Homes. She has an extensive non-profit background as well, as a co-founder of Small Champions, an organization for physically challenged children, and a regular volunteer for the Salvation Army. She also is on Arrowheads board of directors and the Vail Valley Wine Auction Board, which raises scholarship money for the Vail Valley rotary clubs, Colorado Mountain College and the Family Learning Center. We are very excited to have Mack as our board president. He brings a wealth of business experience and strong leadership that will help us as we continue to build our capacity as an organization over the next few years, said Tom Healy, executive director of the local Habitat chapter. We are also delighted to have Barbara Duncan as our vice president. Barbara has been an active volunteer for Habitat and we are happy to have her take on a leadership position in this organization, Healy said. Habitat for Humanity of Eagle & Lake Counties also has two new staff members. In November, Kalie Palmer was hired to be program director and Elyse Howard became development director.
