Holy Cross Energy, which provides electric service to most of Eagle County, has announced its 2024 rebate programs for appliances and energy efficiency projects.
Some of those programs are available to households earning up to 150% of the area median income. In the Eagle River Valley, a four-person household can earn up to $177,450 per year. Other programs are open to those earning 80% of the area median income, $94,640 for a four-person household.
The income-qualified programs provide up to $7,500 per year, or 50% of the cost of any qualifying project.
Rebates outside the limits of the income-qualified program pay up to 25% of the cost of any qualifying project up to $3,000 per year. Other rebates are available for commercial and multifamily projects.
The rebate programs cover projects including cold climate heat pumps for heating and cooling. Those appliances are near the top of the price list for appliances and projects covered by the program.

There’s also rebate funding available for insulation and air sealing, but that applies only to electrically-heated buildings. Those projects must also meet standards including at least a 10% reduction in air leakage from a home and meeting 2018 International Energy Conservation Code requirements.
Rebates are also available for heat pump dryers, water heaters and induction cooktops.
The program also offers $50 rebates for new electric bikes. The utility will pay the full cost, up to $699, of home electric vehicle chargers.
Those who buy new electric lawn equipment can receive rebates covering 25% — up to $150 — for electric lawnmowers and snow blowers. Electric chainsaws are eligible for rebates up to $50 each for electric trimmers, leaf blowers and power washers.
New residential construction is eligible for rebates of 25% of the total cost of qualified equipment, up to $15,000 per home. New commercial and multifamily projects are eligible for rebates of up to $30,000 per building.

The rebates and income limits are a part of a new program, ReEnergize Eagle County.
Eagle County in 2024 is expected to adopt new building codes with an “electric preferred” philosophy in order to encourage electrification in private structures. Most of the valley’s towns have already adopted building codes that encourage building all-electric new homes or converting existing structures to full-electric service.
Codes that grant preference to electric appliances in new or remodeled buildings is just the first step toward requiring all-electric service in all new construction and renovations of existing structures.
