EAGLE COUNTY — Big cities have power couples, and Vail has powder couples. Playing on the familiar saying about people playing together and staying together, Signature Colorado has taken it a step further with the sentiment that couples that ski together, stay together.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the company’s newest collectible print — aptly named “Powder Couple” — is hot off the press. The limited-edition print, illustrated by local artist Dawn Beacon, depicts a couple getting ready to drop into Game Creek Bowl, with views of Mount of the Holy Cross in the background.

“It’s really a signature moment with a couple getting ready to take a run together in the Back Bowls on a gorgeous winter day,” said local creative guru Aaron Cessna, who co-owns Signature Colorado with Rich Staats, a web strategist. “It’s got a happy, bright vibe and a sense of anticipation. And then there’s the well-known vista of Mount of the Holy Cross in the distance to top it off.”

To Staats and Cessna, Colorado’s scenery is a treasured asset. So they decided to produce a series of limited-edition prints meant to showcase the local mountains, which people travel the world over to experience. Their hope is that the prints become collectible art that both locals and visitors seek out year after year.

Beacon, a longtime Eagle County resident who illustrates children’s books, creates the original artwork each year. The first two collectible prints, released in 2015, proved to be very popular. Produced using archival-quality paper and a special five-color printing process, only 1,000 prints are created, and of those, only 100 are signed by the artist. The design is reminiscent of the Chamonix Mont Blanc posters of the 1970s, with muted colors and a fun, vintage vibe.

This year, you have a chance to win signed copy No. 1/100 of “Powder Couple” by entering the Vail Daily’s sixth annual Tell Us Your Love Story contest. This year, the contest’s theme — “Powder Couple” — is based on the new collectible print.

Contest organizers are hoping to get submissions of stories about couples who met on the slopes, fell in love on the slopes, got married on the slopes or for whom snowy places were intrinsic to their courtship in some way. Writers can interpret the theme as they wish. Submissions are limited to 500 words and are due today at 5 p.m. Email to kdriscoll@vaildaily.com and tv8vail@vailresorts.com.

The best stories will be printed in the Vail Daily and the winners will be invited to share their story on TV8. In addition to fame and glory via local media, the top three stories of the bunch also will score prizes, including a signed print No. 1/100 of “Powder Couple” (retail value of $129).

Copies of the collectible print “Powder Couple,” as well as the recently released “Winter Wonderland” and other Signature Colorado offerings, are available at the Vail Daily office in Eagle-Vail, Mondays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and online at http://www.signaturecolorado.com. Each print is $79 (unsigned) and $129 for a signed/numbered print (limited edition of 100).
