Meet Vail Ski Hall of Fame inductee Otto Tschudi

VAIL – The Colorado Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame in Vail, Colorado will induct six new members at a gala on Nov. 7 in Denver. The inductees are Freda Langell Nieters, Vladimir Peter ‘Spider’ Sabich, David Scott, Ann Taylor, Otto Tschudi, and Otto Werlin. All were inducted for making significant contributions to snow sports in Colorado.The Vail Daily will publish bios of each inductee between now and the induction gala. Otto Tschudi, athleteBorn in Oslo, Norway, Otto Tschudi skied for the national team from 1968 to 1972, competing in two Winter Olympics and earning four top-10 finishes in World Cup slalom. Concurrently, he managed to dominate NCAA competition for the University of Denver, winning the NCAA downhill championships in 1970, 1971 and 1972, plus the slalom and combined championships in 1971. Tschudi turned pro in 1972, skiing for Winter Park Pro Racing Team, then worked as a TV ski commentator and as the director of skiing at Winter Park. In 1982, Tschudi joined Thom Weisel and Partners, a San Francisco investment firm, and is now director of international sales for the company. He was instrumental in reestablishing the ski-racing tradition at the University of Denver. Through his hard work as a trustee, the Univeristy of Denver’s ski program was reborn in 1993 and has since won five NCAA national championships.
