MINTURN, Colorado – A Minturn business owner is throwing his hat in the ring for the Eagle County commissioner’s race.

Johnie Rosenfeld, 46, announced that he’s running for the commissioner seat being vacated by Peter Runyon, who is term limited.

Rosenfeld is owner of Johnie’s Garden Inc. and serves on Minturn Town Council. He is first vice-chair of the Eagle County Republican Party.

“As a small business owner in Eagle County, I am excited to bring balance to the Board of Eagle County Commissioners I look forward to giving the voters their voice back in the county.”

John has been in Eagle County since 1988, and lives in Minturn with his wife, Cherish.

So far, Rosenfeld is the only Republican in the race. Jill Hunsaker Ryan has announced her candidacy on the Democratic side. She’s the former head of Eagle County’s public health department.

If no other candidates step up, they’ll face off in the November election.

“We are thrilled to have a conservative voice stepping up to run for county commissioner,” said Kaye Ferry, chair of the Eagle County Republican Party. “With his combined experience as a small business owner and his experience with the Eagle County Republicans, he will bring a unique perspective to Eagle County. I have worked with Johnie for the past few years now and will be proud to have him as our representative on the Board of County Commissioners.”
