Minturn fireworks snuffed out
MINTURN ” Minturn’s parade got rained on, but not the sort of rain fireworks lovers had hoped for.
The July 2 fireworks in Minturn were canceled due to the tall, dry scrub liable to burn below the launch pad at Lionshead rock, said Charlie Moore, chief of the Eagle River Fire Protection District.
“This year it’s just too much risk,” Moore said.
But Beaver Creek plans to go ahead with their fireworks display on Tuesday The resort plans to douse the area below the display with water from snow-making guns to avoid a fire in the grass.
“It’s as safe as it’s going to get,” Moore said.
A wildfire crew will be at the resort to extinguish any fires that might start.
Avon’s fireworks take place on Monday. Eagle and Gypsum officials plan to make a decision today or Saturday whether to allow fireworks. Vail officials are waiting until Monday to make their determination.
