September 23, 1938 – April 20, 2026 
Naomi Joy Mayne—known to most simply as Joy—passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and her life was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, and quiet strength.
Joy was born on September 23, 1938, to Jess and Kathleen Goodwin Pettit. She grew up with a strong sense of family that she carried with her throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marlene Pettit; her brothers, Jerry Goodwin and Ronald Pettit; and her beloved daughter, Debra Joy Tolbert.
She graduated from Eagle County High School in 1956, where she was a cheerleader, and it was during high school that she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Mayne. Together, Joy and Bob built a life centered on family. They raised four children: Debra Joy Tolbert (Randall),Lynda Bird (Mark), Robert Mayne II (Diane Langton), Gerry Mayne (Krista Thorne). Joy was the heart of her home and a guiding presence for her 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren, each of whom she loved dearly.
Her love extended beyond her immediate family as well. She remained close to her sister, Carole Richards; her brother-in-law, Richard Mayne; and her sisters-in-law, LuAnne Mayne, Alveda Mayne and Janet Mayne. Joy had a gift for making people feel cared for, remembered, and important.
A service to celebrate Joy’s life will be held on May 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 934 Gypsum Creek Rd.Gypsum, CO. A viewing will be held before the funeral, starting at 9:30 am. All who knew and loved her are invited to attend.
Joy leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and quiet strength that will live on in the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
