Photos: Helicopters remove trees to reduce fire fuels in West Vail forests

A helicopter with Timberline Helicopters, based in Sandpoint Idaho, under a contract with the Town of Vail and coordinated by the Colorado State Forest Service, removes down timber Friday, Sept. 29, in West Vail. The Intermountain Fuels Reduction project was initiated in 2013, and will conclude with the burning of slash piles left over from logging operations when coniditions are favorable, estimated to take place next winter.
