Prep notebook: Eagle County baseball, soccer, volleyball and lacrosse teams pick up wins

Several Eagle County high school squads collected wins at the end of the week.

The Battle Mountain girls soccer team improved to 5-0 in league play with a 7-0 win over Glenwood Springs on Thursday at home. Thea Armistead and Olivia Goldberg each scored two goals apiece in the shutout. Yeimi Castillo, Elle Armistead and Jordan Asbury also put the ball in the back of the net for the Huskies, who improved to 9-2-1 on the year. The Demons fell to 6-3. No. 9 Battle Mountain heads to Sand Creek on Saturday.

Ashton Eytel and Penelope Wiethake each scored a goal to lead Summit to a 2-1 win over Eagle Valley in girls soccer action on Wednesday. The Devils (3-7-1) traveled to Middle Park (6-2) late Friday.



The No. 15-ranked Eagle Valley boys baseball team continued its winning ways against Steamboat Springs on Wednesday. The Devils poured in five second-inning runs en route to a 13-1 victory over the Sailors to improve to 10-2 on the year. Mason McCormick went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Xander DeHerrera had a double and a home run to lead Eagle Valley offensively. Hudson Rozga struck out six in four innings to pick up the win on the mound. Eagle Valley traveled to Hinkley (0-9) on Friday afternoon.

The Battle Mountain baseball team split a doubleheader against Summit on Wednesday. While the Tigers captured an 11-1 win in the first matchup, the Huskies rebounded for a 10-0 victory in the second. Uriah Morales pitched a five-inning shutout and Kai Tipton went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBI to lead the Huskies, who are now 6-4-1 going into next week’s break.

Caeden Kackman and the Battle Mountain boys lacrosse team defeated Vail Mountain School on Wednesday and Steamboat Springs on Thursday to improve to 9-3 on the season.

Carter Shonk scored six goals and tallied an assist to lead Battle Mountain to a 14-4 win over Vail Mountain School on Wednesday. Logan Roach added a pair of scores and five assists in the win. Weston Roach led the Rangers with four goals. George Reihe and Mac Dienst both recorded assists in the loss as Vail Mountain fell to 2-8 on the year.

The No. 10-ranked Huskies returned to the pitch on Thursday and battled to an 8-7 win over No. 9 Steamboat Springs. Asher Leonard was the high point man with four goals and an assist. Shonk found the back of the net twice and Teagan Larsen and Asher Drummet also scored for the Huskies, who improved to 9-3 on the season. Battle Mountain returns from April break to face No. 5 Aspen at home on April 28. The Huskies lost to the Skiers 9-8 in the team’s first Western Slope matchup on April 11.

The Vail Christian boys volleyball swept Addenbrooke Classical Academy on Thursday. The Saints won 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 to improve to 4-9 on the season. They host Alameda on April 22 at 5:30 p.m.

No. 1 Battle Mountain defeated Mead 13-3 in girls lacrosse on Monday. Eleven different players scored for the Huskies, who improved to 11-0 on the season. Isabel Thomas went over the 100-career goal threshold with two scores and Kate Kovacik added two goals and three assists for Battle Mountain.
