Prep notebook: Eagle Valley football improves to 9-0 with win over Rifle

Eagle Valley improved to 9-0 after a 14-3 win over Rifle on Thursday. The Devils close the year out at Palisade on Oct. 31.

The Eagle Valley football team stayed undefeated coming off fall break, taking down Rifle 14-3 on Thursday.

Nathan Leeper carried the ball nine times for 101 yards and a touchdown and Tavin Shreeve threw another score to Malachi Barros for the Devils, who improved to 9-0 on the year. Barros hauled in four receptions for 79 yards and Keaden Lake caught three passes for 67 yards as well.

No. 5-ranked Eagle Valley closes out the regular season on the road against No. 7 Palisade (6-2).



Other prep notes: Devils boys soccer defeats Demons

  • The Eagle Valley boys soccer team closed out the regular season with a 2-1 win over Glenwood Springs on Thursday. Yael Carrillo and Abel Ruiz scored goals and Carrillo and Marco Rosales each recorded assists for the Devils, who ended the year on a four-game winning streak. Eagle Valley finished second in the 4A Western Slope with a 4-2 record.
  • Peyton Johnson and Danek DeMorat each rushed for four touchdowns to lead Hayden to a 72-28 victory over on Friday. Asher Morris passed for 265 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 91 yards to lead Vail Christian and Finn Hooper caught 12 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown. The Saints (3-5) travel to Leadville to face Lake County on Nov. 1.
  • No. 1-ranked Mullen scored five second-half goals in a 5-0 win over No. 3 Battle Mountain in boys soccer action on Saturday in Edwards. The Huskies (9-4-2) finished the regular season with a 6-0 league record. The 32-team boys state soccer tournament will be seeded and released on Monday.
  • Colorado Springs Christian defeated Vail Mountain School 3-2 on Friday VMS fell to 5-12 on the year. The Rangers face Meeker on Monday.

  • Michelle Teague tallied 10 kills to lead Vail Christian to a 25-16, 25-10, 25-17 sweep over Hayden on Friday. Freshman Ryan Baron added seven kills and five aces for the Saints, who improved to 17-4 on the year. Vail Christian is 9-0 in league play and can secure its second league title in three years with a win at North Park next Saturday.
  • Battle Mountain girls volleyball went 2-2 over a weekend tournament. The Huskies (15-2) fell to Douglas 3-1 and Fountain-Fort Carons 3-2 but was able to sweep Doral Academy Red Rock and take down Denver East in five sets. The Huskies are back in action Tuesday against Glenwood Springs.
Michelle Teague tallied 10 kills to lead Vail Christian to a 3-0 win over Hayden on Friday. The Saints improved to 17-4 on the year.
