Grass fire in Avon fully contained; road reopens

Metcalf Road in Avon was closed due to a grass fire Thursday evening, according to an Eagle County Alert. The road reopened around 6:30 p.m.
The fire, which was around a power transformer, was “fully contained within minutes,” according to a Facebook post from Avon Police Department.
Avon Police Department and Eagle River Fire Protection District were on scene and working to “ensure the “mop up” the area, according to the post. Additionally, Avon Police wrote that a utility company is en route to inspect the transformer.
The closure extended between Nottingham Road and Wildridge Road.
