The Literacy Project and The Bookworm of Edwards collaborate in Valentine’s Day Read-A-Thon for grades K-6

The Literacy Project is challenging Eagle County children to read as many Valentine’s Day books as they can during the month of February. Kindergarten through sixth grade students will seek sponsorships from family, friends, and neighbors, among others, who are willing to donate a chosen dollar amount for every book that is read.

“Our Halloween Read-A-Thon went very well so we are thrilled to offer a Valentine’s Day Read-A-Thon this month in conjunction with The Bookworm,” said Colleen Gray, executive director of The Literacy Project. “We look forward to the community coming together to read and seeing everyone getting into the Valentine’s Day spirit.”

Those participating in the Valentine’s Day Read-A-Thon can pick up their book and sponsor tracker sheet at The Bookworm. These sheets will be used to record the books each student reads and the amount per book their supporters pledge to donate directly to The Literacy Project. For example, if a sponsor commits to $5 per book and 10 books are read, the sponsor will donate $50 to The Literacy Project.

Every kindergarten through third grade student who reads at least ten books (on their own or with a parent) will receive a $10 gift card to The Bookworm. Every fourth through sixth grade participant who reads at least five (age appropriate) books will earn a $10 gift card to The Bookworm. The gift cards will be given when the student turns in their correctly filled out Read-A-Thon tracker sheet which is due by Monday, March 3. Bring the completed sheet to The Bookworm or send a photo to events@bookwormofedwards.com.
