Team Evergreen Bicycle Club’s 17th annual Triple Bypass is Saturday. This 120-mile road ride begins in Evergreen and ends at Nottingham Park in Avon.

Some 3,000 cyclists from all over the US and Canada are expected to participate in this year’s event. The 120-mile ride with elevation gain of more than 10,000 feet makes the Triple Bypass one of the most challenging one-day cycling events in the country.

The tour will take riders on Highway 103 over Squaw Pass, along the I-70 corridor via the I-70 Frontage Road (westbound) and portions of the interstate, U.S. 6 over Loveland Pass, Swan Mountain Road, and US 6 /24 In Eagle County. Highway 103 westbound will be closed between 5:30-8:30 a.m., westbound, except to local residents and event support vehicles. Westbound Swan Mountain Road in Summit County will have a one-lane temporary closure in effect between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The challenge will be softened somewhat by the ride’s amenities – five aid stations with food, drink and volunteers, SAG wagons ready to offer a lift to those in need, mechanical support and a finish line party in Avon that offers showers, massage therapists, and a barbeque.
