On Friday, July 18, at Eagle River Presbyterian Church, U.S. Ambassador Christopher R. Hill returns to the Vail Symposium stage to share his first-hand perspective on foreign policy in uncertain times.
Hill is a five-time U.S. ambassador, including having served as ambassador to Iraq, the Republic of Korea, Poland, North Macedonia, and the Republic of Serbia. He was also assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs under George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
In this engaging session, Hill will discuss the evolving landscape of global diplomacy, the growing complexities of international relations and the challenges facing American foreign policy today. He will share his experiences as well as how the shift away from the career civil servant has impacted America’s global role.
He will talk about the role of the civil service, soft power, and diplomacy and why it is important to have a competent foreign service presence in every country. Drawing on his extensive experience in high-stakes negotiations and global conflict resolution, he will offer expert analysis on the shifting dynamics between world powers, the future of multilateral diplomacy, and how the U.S. and our European allies can navigate emerging geopolitical tensions.
This event will provide invaluable perspectives on America’s role in an increasingly uncertain world, as well as where we can go from here to create a better, safer world.
