SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah man has been arrested after video footage showed him violently beating a house cat.

Authorities say 19-year-old Jordan Lindquist of Saratoga Springs was taken into custody Friday on a felony animal cruelty charge.

Police called it torture and said they’re surprised the cat survived the attack.

The cat was seen being shaken, grabbed by the tail, punched in the head and slammed to the ground.

The animal’s owner said she installed a so-called “nanny cam” surveillance system after spending hundreds in vet bills for injuries from suspected abuse.

Lindquist, who was living with the cat owner’s family, posted $5,000 bail on Sunday.

The AP sought comment on the charge from Lindquist, but could not verify whether he had a listed telephone number or an attorney.
