Vail Daily letter: Driver didn’t fall asleep

My name is Sally, and I am the wife of the truck driver that was involved in Saturday’s accident. I just wanted to clear everything up and say that my husband didn’t fall asleep at the wheel. He has more than 2 million miles under his belt and an excellent safety record. He was drinking coffee and hit a pothole in the road, causing him to choke on it. I don’t know why the officer would say such a statement if he wasn’t sure of it.

I would also like to extend a heartfelt apology to the family whose car he sideswiped according to your article. Although they were uninjured, I still feel sorry that they had to go through that experience. We also have a 2- and 4-year-old, and it would be just terrible if something would have happened like that.

We are counting our blessings here in Wisconsin.
