Vail Mountain School announced in November that several grade levels have officially moved to wait pools for the 2026-27 school year, marking the first time in several years that demand has exceeded available spaces.

“We are thrilled to see such strong enthusiasm from families seeking a Vail Mountain School education,” said Steve Bileca, head of school at Vail Mountain School. “Recently, a satisfaction survey of the families new to our school this year revealed that 100% of them say they are extremely or very likely to recommend VMS to others in the community. We feel our students are thriving, and the increased demand from families affirms the meaningful work our faculty and students contribute every day.”

The enrollment interest comes at a pivotal moment for the school as it begins implementing its new strategic plan, Learning Elevated, which focuses on the school’s vision of “Educating and Elevating Humans for Good.” This plan articulates Vail Mountain School’s commitment to fostering academic excellence, character development, belonging, and purposeful leadership.

“Our strategic plan captures who we are and where we are headed,” Bileca said. “Families are connecting with our vision of raising curious thinkers, compassionate and engaged community members, young people who understand their responsibility to contribute positively to the world around them, and young alumni who share how well they have been prepared by a VMS education for success in college and beyond.”

While a wait pool is in place for some grades, Vail Mountain School will continue to accept applications and review candidates on a rolling basis as space allows. The admissions team encouraged families interested in future openings to apply early and connect with the school to learn more about the Vail Mountain School experience.
