Newly elected Vail Town Council members Kim Langmaid, Kevin Foley, Barry Davis and Sam Biszantz were sworn in at the Vail Town Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday.

That council then selected Davis, an incumbent council member, along with Biszantz, as the town’s new mayor, with Reid Phillips as the new mayor pro tem. Davis was previously the mayor pro tem and was re-elected by voters in November.

Davis’ son, 10-year-old Ziggy, ran up to the dais after seeing his father receive the unanimous approval of the council. The two embraced, briefly pausing the meeting. Davis told those in attendance he was thrilled to be re-elected.

“It is truly an honor to be elected by my peers to sit here,” Davis said from the mayor’s chair. “And I will treat it with respect.”

Davis and the council received words of encouragement from the community during the public comment session that followed.

“Congratulations to the new council and our new mayor, Barry Davis,” said Beth Howard, COO of Vail Mountain. “We’re looking forward to a new chapter, working together as always.”

Bill Jensen, former president of Vail Resorts’ Mountain Division and a current member of the Vail Planning and Environmental Commission, congratulated the council members being elected.

“I really want to commend all of you, and thank you sincerely for your service,” Jensen said. “You do not have an easy job, I know over the next two years, for sure, you’ll make hundreds if not thousands of decisions, and some of them will be more difficult and more challenging than others, but I just want to say we have a lot of faith in the seven of you.”

Local developer Peter Noble described the council as a powerful group.

“Two prior mayors, and a new mayor,” he said. “I think it’s going to be a great, well-balanced council, and I look forward to the public-private relationship of expanding the town for the future. So congratulations to you all, and let’s do it together.”
