Vail Valley Soccer Club teams take 6 different division titles at Vail Valley Cup

Over 3,200 athletes and 163 teams competed in U11-U19 age groups at last weekend's tournament

Six Vail Valley Soccer Clubs (VVSC) claimed division titles at last weekend’s Vail Valley Cup, Cindy Eskwith Memorial Tournament.

The Vail Valley SC U19 girls navy team won the gold division crown by defeating Casper SC Blades United 2-1 on the Battle Mountain High School pitch on Sunday. Vail Valley SC lost to Blades United 3-1 in the team’s first game of pool play on Saturday, but took down Denver Kickers Sport Club 2-0 and Colorado United by a score of 3-1 to earn a spot in the championship. Blades United went undefeated in pool play before falling to the home team in title bout.

Both the U12 boys and girls navy teams won their respective (gold and copper) divisions and the the U13 boys navy squad took a title in the gold division with a 2-0 win over Roaring Fork Valley SC. Finally, the Vail Valley SC U15 girls and boys navy teams won the bronze and silver division titles, respectively.



The U15 girls navy team wasn’t scored on through the first three games of the tournament; the Vail squad took down Boulder County United 3-2 in Sunday’s championship. The U15 boys cruised through pool play as well, racking up 6-2, 4-0 and 7-0 wins en route to a 2-0 title-game victory over Roaring Fork Valley SC.

From Friday night to Sunday afternoon, 163 teams competed in U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U17 and U19 divisions. Games were contested across 13 locations on 22 different fields from Vail down to Gypsum.

“We had over 3,200 athletes and 12,000 spectators. Our referees traveled from as far as Las Vegas to work this event,” Kerri Thelen, Vail Valley Soccer Club executive director stated. “We are really pleased with the largest event to date.”
