Nate Peterson

Nate Peterson has led the Vail Daily as editor since 2019, overseeing a newsroom staff of 14. In 2022 and 2024, the Vail Daily took home the General Excellence award for best in class at the annual Colorado Press Association awards. The newsroom also received an Editorial Excellence award in 2024. Peterson also serves as the director of audience growth and development for Swift Communications’ 12 publications in Colorado, California and Nevada.

Born and raised in Colorado, Peterson got his start in journalism at his hometown paper, the Boulder Daily Camera. He spent eight years as an editor at CBSSports.com, overseeing NFL content for three years. He owns the title of authoring the definitive Super Bowl halftime show rankings and uncovered, in a rollicking oral history, that Brett Favre (maybe) drowned Bambi as a young boy growing up in Mississippi. He has also been a freelancer for The New York Times, reporting on World Cup skiing, snowboarding, Lance Armstrong and college football, He has reported from the Olympics and the Super Bowl and has won awards for headline writing, column writing and in-depth reporting. Peterson lives in Eagle with his wife, Emily, his two children and his 8-pound rescue dog, Frankie.
