The Battle Mountain girls soccer team improved to 4-2 on the year with a 5-1 win over Summit on Saturday in Edwards.
The Huskies have won two in a row after dispatching Roaring Fork 3-1 two days prior. They’re set to face Eagle Valley, which is coming off a 5-0 loss to Montrose last week, in Edwards on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
In addition to being a classic local rivalry game, Tuesday’s match serves as the inaugural “Community Cup.” Head coach Lauren Lux said players from both teams voted on a charitable cause and this year, the goal is to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society.
“The goal is for the Community Cup to be the first game between the two teams each season, with the added impact of raising funds for cancer awareness/research,” Lux stated in an email. “This is something I experienced at the high school I coached at in Alaska and I am thrilled we are getting it going here locally.”
