Devils and Huskies start well at Mickey Dunn
GRAND JUNCTION — Battle Mountain and Eagle Valley track and field arrived at the Mickey Dunn Invitational and saw something foreign in the sky.
It’s called the sun, kids.
Yes, there have been previous meets, but the Mickey Dunn is really the first time the local track teams get a good look and things, and the outlook is positive.
Please note that the meet was having some technological glitches and results weren’t available at press time.
Devils

Eagle Valley is young, but that didn’t stop the Devils from having some good performances.
Charisse Crabb is both young (junior) and good. She won the 100-meter hurdles and was second in the 300. She seems pretty ready for the season.
“We have a really young team this year,” Devils coach Jeff Shroll said. “We have a lot of freshmen and sophomores traveling with the varsity team. It’s great. We’ve tossed them in and they did well. We saw a lot of relay teams coming in fourth or fifth.”
Taylor Hermosillo took third in the 800, while Cassie Jaramillo was fourth in the shot put.
Huskies
Apparently, Jordan Brandt is not just limited to volleyball.
The Battle Mountain senior won the 800 at the Mickey Dunn on Saturday. Naomi Harding and Alex Raichart also placed in that race.
Battle Mountain’s 1,600 girls relay — Kate Pittel, Brandt, Harding and Gabby Trueblood — also ended up in the winners’ circle.
For the boys Demetrius Parrish placed in four different events — both sets of hurdles, the high rump and the mile relay.
“The team is well-rounded, particularly on the guys’ side,” Huskies coach Rob Parish said. “We had throwers score and jumpers score and are getting contributions from our sprint relays.”
The unspoken element is that the Huskies are traditionally strong in the distance events.
Both Battle Mountain and Eagle Valley are at the Eagle Valley Invite next week.
