Gypsum Daze

Gypsum Daze offers up big fun in a small town and welcomes everyone to come out for a multitude of events and activities, most of which are free. Signature events include the parade and classic car show and youth talent show. Competitions include a strength challenge, a 5k run,  pickleball and horseshoe tournaments and for those who dare, the jalapeño eating contest. Bounce house and other inflatables, face painting, carnival rides and midway games can also be found.

Gypsum Daze is known for its concerts with big names in country music. In the past the event has hosted The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Rascal Flats, LeAnn Rimes and Scotty McCreery. This year’s headliner is Ashley McBryde and opening act Chayce Beckham performing on Saturday. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and the music will start at 7 p.m.

Ashley McBryde is a singer/songwriter who has been nominated for numerous awards and has several Country Music awards, Academy of Country Music awards and more. She has numerous hits like “One Night Standards,” “A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega,” and “Never Wanted To Be That Girl,” a duet with Carley Pearce, which earned her a Grammy Award.

Chayce Beckham won “American Idol’s” nineteenth season in 2021. What’s interesting is that Beckham was the first winner in the show’s history to win the competition by performing an original song called “23.” Expect him to play “23” and more of his songs like “Everything I Need,” “Holdin’ You, Lovin’ You,” “Tell Me Twice,” and “This Ol’ Rodeo.”

Concert tickets are $38.50 per person for general admission and there is a VIP ticket option, too, for $153.50. If you are going the general admission route get there early and bring your blankets or low-legged lawn chairs. You are not allowed to bring outside food or beverages to the concert. Food and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are available at the event. For a schedule of events and to buy tickets go to townofgypsum.com.

Maren Morris

Country hit maker Maren Morris will perform on Friday at the Vilar Performing Arts Center. She’s earned a Grammy Award, five Academy of Country Music Awards, five Country Music Association Awards, and three Billboard Music Awards. Listen for her signature sounds with songs like “The Middle,” “My Church,” “80s Mercedes” and more. Morris has toured all over the world and has partnered up with other artists such as Taylor Swift, Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow, Teddy Swims, Hozier and Jessie Murph.

The show has limited availability and do note that the Vilar Center has around 530 seats, so shows do sell out faster than the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater, so don’t delay in getting tickets if you want to see this country star perform in this intimate venue.

The sounds of the 1930s and 1940s come alive on Sunday night at the Vilar Center when The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra fills the stage with sounds from the Swing Era. What’s interesting about Glenn Miller is his amazing impact with the genre even though he died at such a young age.

After a successful career composing and performing hits with his band and receiving high acclaim, Miller enlisted in the army in 1942. He led the Army Air Force Band, boosting the morale of troops during World War II before disappearing on a flight from England to Paris in 1944. His Legacy lives on in The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra. Take a trip down memory lane while listening to songs like “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “Moonlight Serenade,” “Pennsylvania 6-5000” and more.

For tickets for either show, go to vilarpac.org or visit the box office in Beaver Creek.
