As water freezes and melts, and snowbanks swell and shrink, the wintertime river snakes through mountains in a near-constant state of change. Landscape painter Josh Elliott celebrates the cold and changeable body of water in a new exhibition at Claggett/Rey Gallery in Edwards called, “Hush.”
“My aim is to represent the variety within a narrow focus, from sunny days to snowy days, from frozen over to flowing water,” said Elliott about his exhibition.
The show features more than a dozen new works by the celebrated artist studying a variation on the winter stream. This intense focus on a single subject has allowed Elliott to explore his approach to composition, nearing abstraction at times. The results are fresh pieces that breathe new life into the tradition of landscape painting.
Meet the artist at the gallery on Friday, March 6 from 5-8 p.m. at Claggett/Rey Gallery, 216 Main St. Suite C-100, Edwards. For more information, visit claggettrey.com.
