Alterra Mountain Co. CEO Jared Smith will step down from his role at the end of the season, the Denver-based ski company announced Tuesday in a news release.
Alterra, which created the Ikon Pass and owns ski resorts across the country, did not provide a reason for Smith’s departure but said he will serve “as a resource” to the office of the CEO to support a transition.
Smith was promoted to CEO in August 2022 after joining Alterra about a year earlier in a role where he operated and developed the company’s Resort Division. He had previously worked for 15 years at Live Nation Entertainment, including as president and global chairman of Ticketmaster.
Until a new CEO is appointed, the release states that an executive committee of Alterra’s board, including former-CEO Rusty Gregory and ownership representatives from KSL Capital Partners and Henry Crown & Co., will lead day-to-day operations. The board will launch a search process to identify a new CEO.
In Colorado, Alterra owns Steamboat Resort and Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, manages and operates Winter Park, and offers access to Copper Mountain, Eldora Mountain Resort and Aspen-Snowmass through partnerships on the Ikon Pass.
