There’s been a lot of buzz about what was going into the empty restaurant space on Capitol Street in Eagle and the announcement was just made this week that Omaha, Nebraska-based Beyond Golf will be opening up its doors later this spring. Beyond Golf is a restaurant and bar that also has golf simulators that allow you to virtually play some of the most iconic golf courses in the world. So, how did a popular staple on the Omaha restaurant scene end up in Eagle?

“My dad’s been spending about half his time in Eagle for last 10 years or so and we have gone out and visited several times, and we always liked that space, which was 7 Hermits when we started going there. When 7 Hermits was closing, dad was kicking around the idea and said, ‘Oh, that’d be a really good location for Beyond Golf,’ and just never really jumped on it. When El Segundo ended up closing down he said, ‘All right, I didn’t bite on it last time, let’s do it now,’ and here we are,” Josh Galvin said. Josh Galvin and his father, Tom Galvin are the owners and operators of Beyond Golf.

Beyond Golf opened in a suburb of Omaha in 2009 and started out as a place to swing golf clubs and grab a drink during the long Midwestern winters. They eventually added food and it became a place to go for golfers and non-golfers year-round with capacity for 130 people inside and about 60-70 people outside on the patio.

Josh and Tom Galvin are busy remodeling the space on the corner of Capitol Street and Founders Avenue. Right now they are stripping down the floors and re-staining them, putting in a new bar top and have given the interior a fresh coat of paint. Galvin predicts they will be ready to open in about two months. They will first start out with food and beverage service while they wait for four GOLFZON (pronounced “golf zone”) simulators to arrive.

“GOLFZON is a company out of South Korea and it has been ranked the number one golf simulator by Golf Digest for the last eight years or so,” Galvin said. “GOLFZON has a couple of unique features that I have not seen on any other simulators. And the big one is the stance plate, so, the floor that you stand on when you swing is on hydraulics, and it will literally move to give you side lies, downhill lies, uphill lies, so it mimics being out on the course versus being on a flat platform for every swing.”

Galvin said they have many indoor golf leagues in its Omaha location and he hopes to bring that to Eagle.

“In late summer, we’ll receive our four simulators from GOLFZON to start with and we do have plans that, if necessary or if the demand is there, we would be able to add two more simulators,” Galvin said.

On the restaurant side of things Beyond Golf has an extensive menu and prides itself on making food from scratch.

“We smoke all our own meats in-house, which includes brisket, pork shoulder, chicken and chicken wings. We smoke the vegetables that go into our salsa and our house hot sauce, too. Everything is made from scratch in-house,” Galvin said.

Look for craft cocktails and a wide selection of beers to be offered on the menu as well.

“We’re really excited to become a part of the community and a place for family and friends to gather and enjoy a good meal and a nice relaxing round of golf in any weather scenario,” Galvin said. “We’ll be open seven days a week so come on down and we’ll make some memories here together.”
