Cool sippers for summer
Vail, CO, Colorado
Nothing screams summertime like a refreshing beverage. To learn the art of making savory summer drinks ” and elicit envy from fellow food connoisseurs in your circles ” join the Vail Symposium Friday when mixologist Adeena Sussman will teach the art of creating unique, refreshing summer beverages.
Sussman, a NYC-based freelance food writer, recipe developer and chef, has appeared or will soon appear in Gourmet, Epicurious.com, Sunset, Yankee, Every Day with Rachel Ray, Hadassa and Time Out New York. Her most recent book is, “Just Heat it ‘n’ Eat It: Convenience Foods of the 40s-60s.”
“The wonderful thing about making cocktails is that if you know a few basic skills and tricks of the trade, you can make dozens of great drinks,” Sussman said. “It’s perfect for entertaining at home, and it’s also a fun hobby.”
This course in becoming a bar chef will feature Cucumber-Basil Gin, Ginger-Pineapple-Lime Vodka, Chai-Orange-Mango Rum and Watermelon-Blueberry Punch (a non-alcoholic delight), infused-syrups and gourmet garnishes and finishes, such as a candied orange peel, sugar rims and twists.
“Just in time for the official start of summer ” Adeena’s workshop is a great opportunity to find a new refreshment to serve for outdoor grilling parties,” said Fraidy Aber, executive director of the Vail Symposium.
“Drinks with Adeena” is Friday at Lift Cafe in Minturn. The program will run from 4:30-7 p.m. and costs $25 for Vail Symposium contributors and $30 for all others.
To get there, take I-70 to Exit 171 (Minturn/Leadville). Turn right off the ramp, toward Minturn on US 24. US 24 becomes Main Street. Lift Cafe is located on the west side of the street at 291 Main Street. Class size is limited, so reserve your spot early.
