Core Transit hosts ’26 Regional Bus Roadeo
Core Transit hosted the 2026 Regional Bus Roadeo April 29 at the regional transit organization’s headquarters in Gypsum, bringing together transit professionals from across the central Colorado Rocky Mountain region for a day of skills demonstrations, collaboration and community spirit.
The event welcomed 14 participants representing Core Transit, the town of Vail Transit, the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA), and SP+, alongside judges and supporters from the town of Avon Transit and the Eagle County School District.
More than just a competition, the Bus Roadeo celebrates the people behind public transportation and the partnerships that help keep regional transit moving safely and smoothly every day.
Throughout the event, operators demonstrated precision driving skills, safety knowledge and professionalism as they navigated a challenging obstacle course designed to test real-world abilities.
At the same time, the atmosphere was upbeat and supportive, with participants cheering one another on and building connections across agencies.

“One of the best parts of the day was seeing so many different organizations come together,” Core Transit Executive Director Tanya Allen said in a release. “The camaraderie, encouragement, and shared passion for transit created such a positive environment. It was a great reminder that while we may represent different agencies, we all share the same goal of safely serving our communities.”
The top three winners of the 2026 Regional Bus Roadeo were:
• 1st Place: Alisa Lapierre, RFTA
• 2nd Place: Mike Maitland, town of Vail Transit
• 3rd Place: Tyler Goethe, Core Transit
Top finishers for each agency were eligible to compete at the national Bus Roadeo competition May 14 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Core Transit expressed appreciation to all participating agencies, judges, staff members, and operators who helped make the event a success.
