The final day for the Eagle County Avon Annex in the Avon Center building in Avon is officially Sunday, May 3, with some of the county services offered there reopening for business Thursday, May 7, in the new Eagle County Commons building in Freedom Park in Edwards.

That means there will be no up-valley county services Monday to Wednesday, May 4-6. The Eagle County Clerk and Recorder’s Office, offering motor vehicle registration, document recording, marriage licenses and voter services opens in Edwards at 8 a.m., Thursday, May 7.

The new Eagle County Commons building is located at 410 Miller Ranch Road within Freedom Park and directly across from Battle Mountain High School. This state-of-the-art, $34-million facility replaces the Avon Annex at 100 West Beaver Creek Blvd., which, according to county officials, “had reached its capacity to serve the county’s growing population.”

The new building in Edwards, which broke ground in the fall of 2024, also has 20 rental units for county employees (16 one-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments).

“Relocation is about more than just moving boxes; it’s about enhancing service,” Eagle County Commissioner Matt Scherr said in a press release. “Our community deserves a facility that reflects the quality of the services we provide. By centralizing these departments into a well-designed, modern space, we are making it easier for residents to access their county government services.”

On Monday, May 11, Eagle County Human Services, Public Health and Environment and Veterans Services will also be open for business in the new Edwards location.

The Avon Annex in the Avon Center location next to Bob’s Place had parking and office space constraints, while the new Edwards location comes with plenty of free on-site parking. Also, the new facility in Edwards is more accessible via public transportation, with Core Transit providing frequent, direct stops along the Miller Ranch Road corridor.

Clerk and Recorder’s Office officials previously expressed the difficulty of conducting a modern election in the space constraints of the Eagle County Building in Eagle and how excited they were to utilize the new, centralized purpose-built facility in Edwards. Housing officials also touted the addition of 20 more rental units for county employees.

The housing at Edwards Commons Parkside Apartments is considered “a key residential component of the Eagle County Commons, offering thoughtfully designed one- and two-bedroom homes for county employees as part of a broader workforce housing initiative,” officials said in a release.

“Parkside delivers comfortable, all-electric living with modern finishes, in-unit laundry, private outdoor space, and dedicated parking,” county officials added. “High-efficiency heat pumps provide both heating and cooling for year-round comfort, and the community supports a sustainable, future-ready lifestyle with EV charging infrastructure.”
