Crews respond to multiple lightning strike fires in Eagle County

Firefighters are responding to multiple lightning strike fires in Eagle County following a Sunday evening storm.

According to a Facebook post by Eagle County PIO, crews are on scene at a fire near the Sienna Lake development in Gypsum and expect to have that fire contained Sunday night. There are two more active fires up Trail Gulch Road north of Gypsum which crews cannot safely access at this time, “but they do not anticipate them spreading. Crews will monitor overnight and attack first thing tomorrow morning.” Another fire, in a structure near the same site of the Ute Creek Fire Saturday, is contained, though at time of report it was unclear if that incident is related.

Officials are also looking into an unconfirmed fire in the northern part of the county near Routt County.

To avoid duplicate reports, officials are asking the public to please not call 911 unless they believe they are reporting a new incident.
