Delta blues and finger-style guitar on tap in Carbondale
CARBONDALE – Steve’s Guitars has booked consecutive nights of live music by national touring acts this weekend, followed by a special Tuesday gig with the Mississippi Delta blues of Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band.”I’m amazed at the level of talent that’s touring the country, pretty much under the radar,” promoter and listening room owner Steve Standiford said.
The Sidehill Gougers – a young, country trio out of Texas featuring Shane Walker (vocals, guitars, harmonica) Cody Foote (electric bass, upright bass) and Jamie Wilson (vocals, acoustic guitar) – play Steve’s Saturday. Wilson’s lead vocals bring Emmy Lou Harris to mind.And on Sunday, finger-style guitarist Michael Young out of Minneapolis will showcase his skills on six- and 12-string guitars and the slide guitar.
And continuing the busy stretch of musical offerings at Steve’s will be The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, playing Tuesday, following their Monday night appearance at the Belly Up in Aspen.”The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band will be bringing with them some new songs, stories from the road, and their new album, ‘Big Damn Nation,'” according to a band press release. “Recorded entirely live to tape with no overdubs, The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band beats the music onto analog tape under the supervision of producer and engineering genius Paul Mahern (Zero Boys, John Mellencamp). The album also features bonus material recorded in Clarksdale, Miss., in the heart of the Mississippi Delta at the James ‘Jimbo’ Mathus Delta Recording Studio (Squirrel Nut Zippers, Elvis Costello, Buddy Guy).”
