VAIL, Colorado – Today, Marketplace on Meadow Drive explores the Director’s Cut series of wines from the Francis Ford Coppola vineyard, featuring the Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel, Sonoma Pinot Noir and Russian River Chardonnay.

When the Coppola family decided to construct a winery resort in Sonoma County, they felt strongly about giving head winemaker Corey Beck, a Sonoma County native, the opportunity to make wines that reflected his own vision of the quintessential Sonoma wine. Thus the Director’s Cut was born.

Every bottle of Director’s Cut pays homage to the history of filmmaking with its wraparound label designed after a Zoetrope strip, one of the earliest moving-picture devices. Each Director’s Cut label is a replica of a strip from Coppola’s personal Zoetrope collection.

The Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel is full of concentrated flavors of fruit jam, chocolate and vanilla. It pairs well with pork, soups or spicy foods. It has received the Gold or Double Gold award at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair for three consecutive years.

Sonoma Pinot Noir pairs well with poultry, pasta or dessert. Protected by the cool Pacific Coast climate, the grapes used are grown along the Sonoma coastline. This flavorful wine displays tones of red cherry and crushed cranberries.

The Russian River Chardonnay is a full-bodied chardonnay bursting with ripe fruit flavor, oak and spice. By crushing the grapes whole-cluster and fermenting entirely in French oak barrels, this technique serves to highlight the green apple, honeysuckle and citrus flavors that are signature features of the Russian River vineyards. It pairs well with pork or fish.

The tasting will occur during the Vail Farmers’ Market, where attendees can browse hundreds of unique vendors, including Marketplace on Meadow Drive, where a variety of food and drink options are available for purchase.

The Wine Shop at Marketplace on Meadow Drive features a wide selection of wines ranging from daily table varieties to collector vintages. The Wine Shop also provides spirits and a wide array of international and domestic beers.

The tasting event is free, and reservations are not required. Parking is located at the Vail Transportation Center, where parking is free. Marketplace on Meadow Drive is located in Vail Village, at the corner of Meadow Drive and Willow Bridge Road, just west of the International Bridge. From the Transportation Center, head west on Meadow Drive. For more information, call 970-477-4370.
