Update: Crews quickly extinguish fire in Glenwood Canyon that closed I-70

Interstate 70 closed in both directions through a portion of Glenwood Canyon due to a fire as of 1:40 p.m. Friday, according to an Eagle County Alert. Westbound traffic reopened around 2:30 p.m. and westbound lanes reopened around 3:15 p.m.

Glenwood Springs Fire Department got the initial call at 1:27 p.m. for a reported vehicle fire in the eastbound lanes.

“Upon arrival, crews found the fire had spread to vegetation in the median,” the department wrote in a Facebook post Friday afternoon. “Firefighters immediately began extinguishment efforts. The fire has been knocked down. Crews are working to extinguish any remaining hot spots.”
