February 18, 1957 – September 20, 2025
David Secor, 68, of Wyman, Maine and Leadville, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly at his cabin in Maine on September 20, 2025. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Virginia, and his older brother John. He is survived by his bother Charles; sisters Mary and Virginia (Kutch); nieces Maria, Virginia and Francisca; and nephews Leon and John.
Born in a small rural hospital in Maine – his mother called it a rooming house with supervision – Dave was the youngest of five. His first words were “Don’t go in the garden.” Because he was the only one brave enough to do it, he became the goalie in sibling hockey games, resulting in the nickname Silver Tooth.
At the age of 15 he ran away with his older brother John, winding up in Casper, Wyoming. There, he encountered painted ponies and fell in love with the mountains of the west. He became a noted Telemark racer, always seeking deep powder and the thrill of a good run. Long past his prime, he competed in the 1991 Telemark Nationals and proudly took fourth place.
Though the baby of the family, he grew into a gentle giant to his young nieces and nephews, always ready to throw a ball, catch a fish or make a pie (on the slopes). He was the unforgettable uncle who would give a two-year-old a drum set for Christmas. He also loved a night on the town with his buddies, telling stories and playing his harmonica for fun or drinks. His larger-than-life spirit and laughter will be deeply missed.
There will be a memorial dinner on November 2nd, in Portland Maine, to honor Dave’s passing. Please contact his sister Virginia for details.
