Often the first to open for the season, Sun Up and Sun Down Bowls opened later than usual this year and followed China Bowl and portions of Tea Cup Bowl, which opened Feb. 5.

Prior to this season, another late year for the opening of Sun Down Bowl was 1977, when the first mention of the Back Bowls being open in the Vail Trail newspaper came on Feb. 25.
