If you’re a fan of Radio Free Minturn, you can rally to support the radio station on Saturday at Little Beach Park and be treated to some good music while you’re there.
That’s the message from the local community-run radio station’s board president, Jean Larie, who will be one of the musical acts performing on Saturday.
Also performing will be Bob Masters and Nick Steingart of Skin the Rabbit, known for its bluegrass with a twist, along with Larie and Jen Mack. The music starts at 12:30 p.m.

There will be activities for kids, and guests can bring their food and drink with coolers allowed in the park, but no glass.
A drawing will be held for two tickets to the String Cheese Incident concert at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail on Aug. 9. There will be two sets of two tickets to the Vail International Dance Festival given away, as well. The event is free, but the station will ask for a suggested donation of $20.

“This will help us pay the rent, pay the tower bill and all the other operational costs it takes to run a community radio station,” Larie said.
Radio Free Minturn uses volunteer DJs who live in Eagle County to create unique programming each week on 107.9 FM. The station relies on sponsorships from local businesses and donations from listeners to support its operations.

Larie said the station has never held a fundraiser concert before, and the event came together with help from Jen Mack, the Radio Free Minturn board and the town of Minturn. Larie said she hopes the event will let more people know that Radio Free Minturn is an asset to the community.
“We just want people to know we’re a community radio station, and we can get your story out there if you’re part of the community,” Larie said.

The station, for many years, was located in Minturn, but moved to EagleVail recently and also saw changes in its board, with Larie now the board president.
Larie said taking on the role has made her realize how much effort goes into running a community radio station, but how important it is for residents, as well.
“Hopefully this event will help spread the word and keep us going,” she said.
