VAIL — This summer Sweet Basil celebrates Vail’s most renown feature, the outdoors, with a new deck overlooking Gore Creek.

The new, 240-square-foot deck seats 24 guests and is open now. It was created with glass railings to capture the the open-air feeling and maximize the spectacular views.

Sweet Basil celebrates its 35th anniversary this year.

“Our guests have always had great views of Gore Creek, but now they can actually dine outdoors; taking advantage of Colorado’s signature scenery — this is something we’ve wanted to do for some time,” said Matt Morgan, owner and managing partner of Sweet Basil. “When we opened Mountain Standard (which is located creekside, below Sweet Basil), the construction plans for the new restaurant created an opportunity for us to put a deck outside of Sweet Basil. It was an opportunity we couldn’t resist as outdoor dining in the summertime along Gore Creek is a premium in Vail Village; not many restaurants are able to offer such a unique experience.”

Those choosing to dine indoors also will benefit from the addition, which includes a sliding glass wall system, creating unimpeded views and allowing the mountain air inside.

The entire project was designed and constructed by Mark Hallenbeck of Rocky Mountain Construction Group.
