Wildland fire off Highway 6 in Edwards contained

Update, 3:45 p.m.: The fire is now contained, according to an update from the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office. Crews will remain on-scene to mop up. Squaw Creek Road has one lane open. The investigation into the cause of the fire remains ongoing.
Update, 11:05 a.m.: Squaw Creek Rd is closed southbound for a wildfire about half a mile up. No evacuation orders in place at this time. Residents of Cordillera may leave but will not be allowed back up to Cordillera at this time. Fire units are in the area investigating.
Multiple wildland fires have reportedly ignited in the area of Squaw Creek Road and U.S. Highway 6 in Edwards, according to an EC Alert sent at approximately 10:21 a.m. Thursday.
The road has been closed, firefighters are on scene and officials have requested that the public please not call 911 for fires in that area at this time unless you are in immediate danger.
