Gearvana Vail

If you’re looking for deals on equipment, Gearvana Vail is for you. This is a multi-day event that will bring gear that you need, and even some that you don’t need but will want after seeing the deep discounts.
Gearvana Vail was started by longtime local Mike McCormack. You may recall Gearvana Eagle which was held last fall at the Eagle River Center and offered all sorts of summer and some winter gear at deep discounts. McCormack has teamed up with local retailers to provide incredible deals on the gear and brands they love. Customers will find deals throughout both villages on skis, boards, boots, helmets and apparel, some up to 70% off.
Instead of the event being in one location, the deals will be found at the individual retailers throughout Vail and Lionshead. Each store has its own hours, but Gearvana Vail will have an information tent between Gorsuch and Patagonia Vail with maps ready to hand out to customers. The big pink GearVana tent will be staffed from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Fri-Sun. One thing to note, Smith Optics will be giving out surprise gifts through Basecamp Vail (base of Gondola One) with a purchase of helmets, eyewear of goggles. More details can be found at gearvana.net.
Improv Night on Friday

The Vail Valley Theatre Company presents Improv Night this Friday and be prepared for anything to happen.
“Our Rocky Road Improv troupe is a bunch of locals who love playing on stage without knowing what’s going to come next,” said Gina Parrish, improv artistic director for the Vail Valley Theatre Company. It will be on-the-spot-fun with plenty of laughs and a high-energy show.”
Each round of improv starts with prompts that come from people in the audience.
“Improv comedy is unique in that it is unscripted. Everything you see is made up on the spot. Audience members may be familiar with improv comedy in shows such as ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’ or Dropout’s ‘Make Some Noise.’ We do the same kind of thing, except we choose different games to play. Our cast has taken many hours of rehearsal to learn and practice the formats the audience will see Friday, which are both short-form games and long-form storytelling.”
Come just for the entertainment or if you are improv curious, check out the performances and follow that up with one of the Vail Valley Theatre Company’s improv workshops.
Adults of all experience and skill levels — from beginners to experts — are welcome to try out improv comedy. At the workshops, improvisers receive instruction and hone their creative skills in a fun, supportive environment. Find out more at vailtheatre.org/improv-workshop.
Improv Night will be held at Grand Hyatt Vail on Friday. Doors open at 6 p.m. Visit vailtheatre.org for ticket information.
