VAIL VALLEY, Colorado – The Vail Valley’s second annual Pumpkin Festival and 5K Fun Run takes place Saturday at 4 Eagle Ranch. The event will go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 per person and automatically enters you to win a giant, pink pumpkin. Drawings taking place at 1 and 2 p.m.

This family-friendly event celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness month – 50 percent of the net proceeds from the event will benefit The Shaw Regional Cancer Center in Edwards.

More than 800 pumpkins are scheduled to appear at 4 Eagle Ranch for the event. Everyone who registers is eligible to win one of three giant pink pumpkins in two drawings throughout the festival. A raffle for the third giant pumpkin will take place at 3 p.m. Proceeds from the raffle will also benefit The Shaw Regional Cancer Center.

“This idea stems from Tom Backus (the owner of 4 Eagle Ranch) and I thinking about great things to do at 4 Eagle ranch and we came up with the idea to have a pumpkin patch here in Eagle County. This year we decided to align ourselves with Breast Cancer Awareness month and incorporate the idea of giant pink pumpkins,” said Tony Mauro of KZYR.

The event will begin with a fun run and children’s obstacle course at 10 a.m. Other festivities like a haystack maze, pumpkin patch, family portraits by Mike Rawlings, wagon rides and more start at 11 a.m. The Randall McKinnon and the Roadhouse Band will provide entertainment starting at noon. Following the first giant pink pumpkin give-away at 1 p.m., a haystack candy grab for kids ages 4 to 10, will take place. Kids participating in the candy grab will be divided into age groups – 4 and under, 5 to 7 and 8 to 10.

“We went last year and we love going, it is the highlight of fall for my 5-year old and I,” said local resident Sue Franciose. “It is great to visit an actual pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkins.”

The 5k Fun Run will take runners on the rolling fields of 4 Eagle Ranch. The Vail Recreation District also will provide a free kid’s obstacle course for the little ones during the 5k race. The cost is $25 for pre-registration, or $35 on race-day. Race participants receive free entry into the festival and a pumpkin.
