While American celebrates 250 years of independence and Colorado marks 150 years of being a state, the town of Avon is celebrating its 40th annual Salute to the USA. This popular event returns to Harry A. Nottingham Park on Friday, July 3, continuing an Avon tradition that brings generations together for a fun, family-friendly celebration right before the activities on the Fourth of July. The town of Avon is excited to announce that Grammy Award-nominated singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and rock performer Grace Potter will headline Avon’s signature Independence Day event. “Salute to the USA is the community’s most anticipated event of the year. We are thrilled to welcome Grace Potter to the Avon Pavilion,” said Avon chief cultural officer, Danita Dempsey, in a press release. “This milestone year promises an unforgettable celebration in the heart of the Colorado Rockies!”

Rocker Grace Potter has played in the Vail Valley several times, most recently at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek in 2024. It was fitting for the Vermont native with a ski racing background to take the stage in Beaver Creek during the women’s Birds of Prey World Cup alpine ski race weekend.

“I have a history with Vail that spans longer than my shows here because my dad has been doing signs for all the ski areas since the 1980s. So, I’ve been coming here not as a ski kid but as a service entrance kid that comes in with the sign maker dad,” Potter said when she was here for the World Cup in Beaver Creek. “My family has always been a little bit migratory and in the winter all my dad cared about was how to figure out a work situation where he could still ski as much as possible.” It the past, Melissa Etheridge, Ziggy Marley, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Hazel Miller and more have entertained thousands of locals and guests at Nottingham Park. In addition to the concert, there will be food vendors and a festive atmosphere. Come early and enjoy a picnic and grab a drink at the Hahnewald Bar. Enjoy face painting, balloon sculptors, magicians, inflatable fun houses and more before one of the largest fireworks displays (conditions permitting) lights up the skies after the concert.

Grace Potter will bring a high energy show to the Avon Performance Pavilion playing songs from her acclaimed albums. The Grammy Award-nominated performer has shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, Robert Plant, the Allman Brothers Band, and has played nearly every major music festival in addition to launching her own festival, Burlington’s Grand Point North. Gates open at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 3 for Avon’s free Independence Day event. For more information about Salute to the USA, please visit avon.org/salute
