Editor’s note: Kris Sable is in charge of cultural programming for the Vail Valley Foundation. Here in his weekly column, Director’s Corner, he gives his expert take on upcoming performances in the Vail Valley.

As we enter the official summer season, I want to talk today about one of the most beloved and anticipated events on the Vail Valley Foundation’s cultural calendar: the Bud Light Hot Summer Nights free concert series.

On June 19, we’ll kick off the 20th anniversary season. In the last two decades, the Hot Summer Nights series has become synonymous with summer. Live music, good friends and beautiful scenery have become a Tuesday tradition for scores of locals and visitors alike at the Ford Amphitheater throughout the summer months. Crowds of spectators fill the outdoor venue each week to enjoy the beautiful weather, a summer picnic on the lawn, the sense of community ” and, of course, the incredible music.

The 2007 lineup features something for everyone. From reggae to funk to Celtic rock and even hip hop dance, the 20th anniversary season promises to be one of the best yet. Highlights include reggae legends The Wailers, country sensation Steve Azar and the outrageous tribute band Lez Zeppelin. I also highly recommend the July 31 Hot Summer Nights of Dance featuring Break! This special performance is presented in conjunction with the Vail Valley Foundation’s own Vail International Dance Festival. The performance is a great at way to experience a unique, fantastic brand of urban street dance which is not often performed outside of big cities.

We always like to take the opportunity to thank our incredible sponsors and supporters who make it possible to offer these free events to the community. Without their help, we could not open the doors of our beautiful venue to the public ” or bring to town these amazing performers ” without charging for admission.

So check out the full lineup below, visit our website at vvf.org for more information, and get ready to ring in the summer the Vail way ” at Hot Summer Nights.
