January 31, 1964 – August 8, 2025
Gabriella (Warmenhoven) Matus left this world on 8 August 2025, after battling cancer like a warrior for the past five years. Born January 31, 1964 in Akron, Ohio, her adventurous nature took her to live in New York City, Egypt, and London before she settled in Vail Valley. There, she met the love of her life, her husband, Lance Matus. Gabriella’s passion was her family and raising her sons, Kade (21) and Cashel (20).
Gabriella was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Geesje Warmenhoven, and her brother-in-law, Thomas Emery. She is survived by her sisters Monica Emery, Claudia Folt (Robert), and Rosemary Warmenhoven (Matthew Painter); and by her brothers Michael Warmenhoven (Tonya) and David Warmenhoven (Jennifer). She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Gabriella’s quick wit, charm, fun nature and generosity earned her many lifelong friends around the world. She was blessed with years of love and support from dear friends and neighbors in Miller Ranch. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Fittingly, her career was varied and unique. She worked in advertising in New York and as a dive master in the Red Sea, and later served as the Senior Director of Business Operations at Walking Mountains Science Center, where she was especially proud of their mission.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Shaw Cancer Center or Walking Mountains Science Center. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
