Vail Christian High School has selected three students to join its class of 2030 as recipients of the 2026 Honor and Heart of an Artist Scholarships.

The 2026 academic merit Honor Scholarships were awarded to two Eagle County eighth graders. This year there were 17 nominations. The two recipients were chosen on the basis of grades, standardized test scores, teacher recommendations, written essays and personal interviews conducted by a panel of three ninth grade teachers.

Tinley Love of Veritas Scholars Academy (homeschool) and Flynn Moser of Eagle County Charter Academy earned the merit-based scholarships, providing half price tuition each year until graduation from Vail Christian High School, totaling over $60,000 per student over four years. They will be part of the school’s incoming freshman class who will graduate in 2030.

This is the 10th year Vail Christian High School has awarded the Honor Scholarship to incoming freshmen through a process based on academic merit and achievement. Winners must maintain a GPA of 3.75 throughout their four years of schooling and must exhibit strong character and leadership.

The Heart of an Artist Scholarship offers $5,000 off tuition, renewable for four years. This scholarship is one of its kind in the Vail Valley. In the fourth year of this scholarship opportunity, there were nine nominees vying for the single scholarship. Candidates must be nominated by a teacher and demonstrate both breadth and depth in their creative pursuits by submitting a portfolio along with their application.

The recipient must commit to taking fine arts classes each year in all of Vail Christian High School’s four art disciplines of studio art, digital media, theater and music. It is part of the school’s mission to develop and celebrate the whole person and ignite passion in arts, academics and athletics.

The recipient of the 2026 VCHS Heart of an Artist Scholarship is Matias King of Eagle Valley Middle School. King is an accomplished multi-discipline creative, focusing on audio/video production, theater, dance, music and crochet.

When asked what it means to have the heart of an artist, King answered: “I think that having the heart of an artist means you have internal abilities to create because it makes you happy. Art is like having your own language that only you know, like when you start dancing and don’t need anyone to instruct you how to express your movements. It is you who is in the creative flow where you are only concerned with what you want to create. In moments of frustration you continue maybe because you know that your work will bring joy to others and that lights you up with a spark of creativity. Having the heart of an artist is following your creative liberties to create for you and others. To have the heart of an artist means to feel the world a little deeper than most. It is to notice the beauty in small things, or to feel the pain that others don’t realize.”
