Tomorrow is May 5 and a day where many people celebrate Cinco de Mayo. This day is sometimes mistaken for Mexico’s Independence Day, which is September 16, 1810, when Mexico gained their sovereignty from Spain. May 5 actually marks the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862.
In the U.S., the date has become associated with the celebration of Mexican American culture. Larger cities like Los Angeles, Houston and Miami will host parades, traditional dances and concerts. Closer to home, Eagle County restaurants will serve up some authentic fare and offer margarita specials.
Please note that some restaurants take a break during the off season and are closed at this time. Here’s a partial list of places that are doing Cinco de Mayo specials and featured items. Check with your favorite establishment to see if they have any deals going on.
