Prep notebook: Devils and Huskies girls golf compete in dual meet at Eagle Ranch

Eagle Valley and Battle Mountain golfers went head to head at Eagle Ranch on Thursday. Julia Borejszo — a state qualifier in both wrestling and golf — topped the eight-person field with a 92. The senior drilled a birdie on the 143-yard fifth hole and tallied five pars on the day.

Her teammate, Claire Walker, took runner-up honors with a 102. The freshman finished the day strong, posting pars on three-straight holes before putting in for bogey on the 18th green.

Battle Mountain was led by Belen Hahn and Keena Shikverg, both of whom carded a 112 on the day. Milana Daniel finished fifth with a 121.



The Huskies and Devils return to Eagle Ranch four another tournament on Monday morning beginning at 10 a.m.

Other prep notes: Freshman’s hat trick propels Battle Mountain to rivalry win over Eagle Valley

  • Freshman Olivia Goldberg recorded a hat trick to propel Battle Mountain to a 6-0 win over Eagle Valley on Friday night in Gypsum. The Huskies improved to 10-3-1 on the year and finished atop the Western Slope League with a perfect 6-0 mark. Fellow freshman Karen Rangel scored a goal for the Huskies as well and junior Yeimi Castillo put the ball in the back of the net twice, too. Eagle Valley finished the year with a 4-10-1 record. Battle Mountain is ranked 13th in 4A as of this writing. The state brackets will be released on Sunday, with tournament play beginning early next week.
  • The Vail Mountain School girls soccer team defeated Aspen 2-0 on Thursday night to improve to 7-4 on the season. The Rangers finished the regular season on Saturday against St. Mary’s Academy.
  • Vail Mountain lost to Lutheran 13-1 in boys lacrosse on Friday to drop to 2-10 on the year. The Rangers closed out the season on Saturday against Aspen.
